GUITAR LESSONS FOR CHILDREN
Private music lessons have numerous benefits for children of all ages. Many studies show noticeable improvements in academic performance including cognitive, vocabulary, and reading and writing skills. Developing an effective practice routine as a young child will have lasting effects on skill development that will stay with the student into adulthood. Being a musician also has many social benefits, since the student will have the ability to perform with other musicians as their skills develop.
Alan recommends students be at least 6-8 years of age before starting guitar lessons, since it is important to develop finger strength. The guitar a young student has is also very important for their learning experience. If you are looking to purchase a guitar for your child, Alan can recommend a guitar that is suitable for their age. These instruments are all relatively inexpensive.
If your child is younger than 6, Alan recommends piano lessons. After developing basic abilities on the piano, it is very easy for a child to transition to other instruments. Owning an acoustic piano is not required for piano lessons, a simple electric piano will suffice. As an alternate to piano lessons, ukulele lessons are also a great primer to guitar lessons since less finger strength is required to play a ukulele.

TESTIMONIALS
Al has been teaching my boys (13 and 14 yo) for over 5 years. They have been instructed in guitar, ukulele, djembe and voice. Al is patient, and always encouraging them to better themselves, inside and outside of the music studio. The boys are so comfortable with him and it allows them to freely express themselves. My younger son is a theater performer and Al is always there to help prepare for an audition or role. Highly recommended.

I have been studying guitar with Alan for several years and he is nothing short of being a stellar teacher. His assets lie in his approach to teaching and his knowledge of music. He acknowledges my achievements and carefully considers what would help me move ahead. He then suggests useful and manageable assignments that lie just far enough beyond where I am that I am challenged, but not frustrated. I could not be more enthusiastic about recommending him as a teacher for guitar, and I trust it would be the same for any instrument he offers to teach. Thank you, Alan.

Alan has done a really great job with my son, even wth the online format they seem to really connect. He leaves each lesson inspired to play more and more music! Very thrilled with our experience, highly recommend.

My son takes ukulele lessons from Alan and has been for over a year! I cannot speak highly enough about his teaching style with kids! My son started lessons when he was 5 and Alan did an excellent job connecting with him, creating developmentally appropriate activities, motivating him to practice, and building confidence in his progress. We’ve moved to online lessons now and I am impressed with how he teaches virtually! I absolutely love the sound of my son singing and playing the ukulele around the house!

Alan has been teaching my daughter, Olivia piano for almost a year now. Olivia loves piano and Alan has been wonderful in his instruction to her. He’s also been very flexible and accommodating to our family. We can’t recommend Alan enough! He even sent Olivia a Happy Birthday jingle along with his band on Olivia’s birthday (as per her request). She lit up when she saw it & was elated that he remembered.

Alan has been teaching my 7 year old son guitar for almost a year. Not only has my son made incredible progress in his understanding of music and the instrument, he also has developed a great relationship with a patient, caring adult! We started in person but have been doing online lessons for the past six weeks or so due to social distancing, and the transition has been really smooth. I didn’t realize how successful online music lessons could be, so I’m pleasantly surprised to see my son continuing to progress. I highly recommend Alan as a music teacher.

Alan is great. Our 6 year-old has learned an enormous amount over the past six months, and can really play the Ukulele now. Alan is great with him – always on time, always with a great lesson plan. We’d strongly recommend Alan to anyone!

Alan is a superb teacher. First, he is a master of many musical styles. His knowledge, interest in his students’ goals, and ability to listen enable him to teach any student, from beginner to advanced musician. After many years of playing rhythm and basic fingerstyle guitar, I am learning to solo and improvise with Alan. I know firsthand how he not only helps his students improve their technical skills, but also to make music and have fun with it. I wholeheartedly recommend him.

I’ve been seeing Alan for classical guitar lessons for about a year. His technical and musical understanding, patience, enthusiasm, and ability to give clear directions, have helped me make steady progress. I can play with confidence and look forward to learning more advanced pieces. Most important, I really enjoy practicing.

Alan does piano lessons for our two sons, aged 6 and 8 now. We have been doing this for almost 2 years and the progress is amazing, the boys are still committed to it, and Alan shows patience and persistence to help the boys achieve. I mean those words in the most positive way possible. He can really relate to them and push them to achieve while making the experience fun and worthwhile. I have already recommended him to a friend.
